Oscar Rouseaux and the Alafia Dance and Drum company will perform music and dance based on the Yemaya tradition. Led by Cuban-born dancer, drummer and all-around folklorist OSCAR ROUSSEAUX, a graduate of Cuba's prestigious National School of Art Instructors and former dancer with one of Cuba's premiere folklore troupes, Compañía Folklórica Cubana JJ. Weaving together traditions and legacies from the Yoruba, Calabar, Arará, Iyesa, and Bantœ lands of Africa, from Spain and other European countries, and from the Caribbean, company the company brings alive the rich cultural heritage of Cuba, echoing similar legacies found throughout the Americas. Presented in conjunction with Mami Wata exhibit.
