African cinema addresses a wide spectrum of the human experience. Themes include, among other topics, racism, self-determination, women's issues, politics, history, love, faith, religion.
Tours and Outreach
Tours are based on objects and themes reflected in the museum's collections and exhibitions. Visitors and groups of no more than 15 may request an unscheduled tour at the information desk in the museum's pavilion. Walk-in tours are subject to staff availability. Museum representatives also travel to classrooms, community groups or senior centers to introduce audiences to African art. Watch Kankouran West African Dance Company performing in the museum.
Clinics and Resources
African Art curators and conservators meet with the public to assess individual works of art and offer advice on the proper care of care of their collections.
